Frequently Asked Questions

Can an exercise physiologist help me or my child with a disability under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)?

Yes. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) will fund exercise physiology for children and adults with many neurological conditions. Those who are self-managed or plan-managed are able to use funding for our services. Currently, we are unable to accept those who are NDIA managed, however, you can request for your plan to be changed by contacting your NDIS coordinator.

How will exercise help me with my disability?

Exercise has a very large list of benefits. Each person and their disability is unique in the way that exercise may help their condition. Our assessments will gather a detailed medical history, as well as gathering a thorough physical assessment and goal setting. Our exercise physiologists will then devise an individualised exercise program that will best suit your needs so you are able to work towards achieving your goals.

How can an exercise physiologist benefit me or my child with Autism?

As you may know, no two people who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder are the same. Each child or adult has their own unique interests and strengths that our exercise physiologists tailor into the exercise therapy programs to get the best interaction and results.

Exercise has many benefits for Autism, one of them being an improvement in concentration and focus which helps to participate in activities at home, engage more in the community or at school. Everyone that we provide a service for has different needs and goals, some may want help in participating in sports, others may want to keep up with their peers or simply need help in engaging in the community and increasing socialisation.

Can exercise help with Cerebral Palsy (CP)?

Cerebral Palsy is a movement disorder and exercise and movement is what we do. Movement is our speciality and understanding how Cerebral Palsy affects each person is where we will begin. Each person with Cerebral Palsy has different needs and goals that we will help to achieve. We strive to help people with Cerebral Palsy achieve whatever it is they wish to accomplish, some may want help in sport participation or accessing the community, others may want to improve their mobility or muscular strength.

Can exercise be done without going to the gym?

Yes. At Emerge Movement and Rehabilitation we specialise in exercise programs that can be done in the comfort of your own home or in the local community. We are a mobile service that will come to you to help you achieve your health and wellbeing goals.

How quickly can I expect to see results from the exercise intervention?

Every adult or child is different, our assessments will help determine the best exercise program for your individual needs and goals. This will make sure you are going to receive the fastest and most beneficial results.

How do I pay for exercise physiology services?

Most private health insurance companies provide a subsidy for exercise physiology services. Sessions may also be covered by your self or plan managed NDIS plan, Medicare Chronic Disease Management Plan, Aged Care Plan, or DVA. Our services are always invoiced via email or your respective online portal after the completion of the session.
